Wills, Trusts and Probate

It’s easy to put off making a will. It may be perceived as a costly process, a task to be left until later in life. It may even, in some minds, create a perception of hastening one’s demise! However, if you die without one, your assets will be distributed according to the law of intestacy rather than your wishes, which may mean that your spouse or partner receives less or that your money goes to family members who may not need it.

Making a will is important. By making a will you can decide how your assets will be distributed, ensure that your partner is properly provided for, and that you do not pay more Inheritance Tax than you need to upon your death.

As well as making a will, you can use a family trust to pass on your assets in the way you want to. There are different types of family trust depending on what you want to do and on the circumstances. You can also use a trust to look after assets you want to pass on to beneficiaries who are unable to manage their affairs because of their age or a disability. Setting up a trust is complex but at Camerons Jones we have the necessary expertise to advise and help you.

We have experience in all aspects of this process and can provide clear, expert and timely advice in a variety of different areas:
  • Drafting your will
  • Probate and Estate Administration, working with executors to a will to carry out the wishes of the deceased
  • Contesting wills, if you consider that you have not received reasonable financial provision from the estate of the deceased
  • Deeds of Variation, whereby the wishes of the deceased can, in certain circumstances, be varied by agreement of the beneficiaries
  • Powers of Attorney
  • Deputyship
  • Trust Deeds
  • Inheritance tax advice
